SUMMARY

Giannos, or Turkogiannos, is an illegitimate child, the result of the rape of his Arvanite mother by a Turkish bandit. As he grows up, he experiences the scorn of the village, while both he and his friend Petros are in love with Margarita, their childhood friend, a strong and independent young woman.
